Literacy

At St Barnabas and St Paul’s we offer a varied and rich English curriculum. Our English lessons comprise of: reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, handwriting and speaking and listening.

We practice our Literacy skills in other subject areas wherever possible. This gives us the opportunity to practice and enhance our skills.

We have implemented the new curriculum 2014 for English which can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/335186/PRIMARY_national_curriculum_-_English_220714.pdf

Each term, parents are invited into classes to come and take part in a English lesson. It’s a great opportunity to see how their child learns and interacts during lessons; it also allows them to experience first-hand, the fantastic teaching and learning that takes place in our school! During the year we have special days such as dress as your favourite character day and world book day.

Further information can also be found on our school leaflets – see’ The new curriculum end of year expectations’ which details what children in each year group should know by the end of each year.
