At St Barnabas & St Paul’s Church of England Primary School we want all of our children to be happy, healthy and safe. We value the positive contribution each makes, which enables them to aim high, enjoy learning and succeed.
In teaching our R.E we work within a Christian environment committed to promoting the beliefs of the Church of England. At the same time we are sensitive to the members of our school from other cultures and beliefs, valuing the opportunity to encourage tolerance and understanding whilst developing the school as a Christian community.
We teach about the nature of religious and ethical beliefs and the importance of these to the lives of believers, i.e. find out what believers believe.
The amount of time given each week to the teaching of R.E is one hour at both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. In The foundation stage R.E is taught as a discreet subject and certain aspects will also be covered in knowledge and understanding of the world. This is independent of time spent in collective worship. It is recognised that an element of ‘R.E’ is ongoing on a daily basis.
