Class 1AH

Welcome to Class 1AH!

Welcome to Class 1AH! My name is Miss Rafique and I am the class teacher in Class 1AH. I love working in Year 1 where we are busy bees and work super hard! We are lucky to have Mrs Howarth to help us with our learning. We always aim high and have high expectations and standards in everything we do. Year 1 is an exciting year as our pupils move from the Foundation Stage and settle into a busy new timetable and lots of hard work! We have a lot of fun learning and our classroom is a bright and colourful environment showing all of our fantastic achievements and progress.

Here you will find out a little about what is going on in our class this half term.

In our Literacy we will be focusing on ‘Julia Donaldson’: We will be researching facts and learning some poetry that she has written. This will be followed by focussing on one book and trying to write our own adaptation.

You can explore more about Julia Donaldson on her website: http://www.juliadonaldson.co.uk/index.php

In Mathematics we will be looking at place value, column addition and subtraction; short multiplication and division; word problems; equivalent fractions; adding and subtracting fractions; bar charts and time.

Our Creative Curriculum (History) topic this half term is all about ‘Transport’ and how it has evolved. We will also be learn about significant people who have had an impact on the way transport is now.

Our Role play corner is a Space Station. We have had lots of fun with children dressing up in spacesuits and pretending to walk in space. Boing! Boing!

In Science, our topic is ‘Animal including Humans’ where the children will be looking at different characteristics and then discovering our senses.

Reminders:

  • Please remember that reading books can be changed daily if reading logs have been signed. Reading Rocket words will be changed once a week during Guided Reading it is important your child can practise writing and reading the words on sight.
  • Homework is sent home each Friday and we expect it to be returned the following week completed and showing amazing effort.
  • PE and Dance are taught on Tuesday’s and it is important that earrings and other jewellery are not worn.
  • Children may bring a water bottle to school and replenish this each day. Drinking water helps our brains and keeps us learning!
