Class 1MR

Welcome to Class 1MR!

Welcome to Class 1MR! My name is Miss Rafique and I am the class teacher. I love working in Year 1 where we are busy bees and work super hard! We are lucky to have Mrs Howarth to help us with our learning. We always aim high and have high expectations and standards in everything we do. Year 1 is an exciting year as our pupils move from the Foundation Stage and settle into a busy new timetable and lots of hard work! We have a lot of fun learning and our classroom is a bright and colourful environment showing all of our fantastic achievements and progress.

Here you will find out a little about what is going on in our class this half term.

In our Literacy we will be focusing on ‘Growth and Green Fingers’: We will be exploring classical stories like ‘Peter Rabbit’ before writing our own stories. We will also learn about Instructional Writing. This will include following instructions and learning about imperative verbs which are bossy words!

In Mathematics we will be looking at place value, column addition and subtraction; short multiplication and division; word problems; equivalent fractions; adding and subtracting fractions; bar charts and time. Please could you help your child practise counting in 2s 5s and 10s. If they can recall these tables the children can learn the number sentence i.e. 1 x 2 = 2. This will also get them ready for Year 2. Many thanks in advance!

Our Creative Curriculum (Geography) topic this half term is all about the Lake District. We will learn all about the fantastic Lakes, Hills and Mountains and about the tallest mountain in England Scafell Pike! Wow!

In Science, our topic is ‘Seasons’ and ‘Animal including Humans’. We will explore the season of Spring and go on a Spring walk around school. The children will also be looking at different characteristics humans and animals.

We also have a new reading corner in Class where children can relax under the canopy and curl up with a book of their choice. Reading helps us to learn more and become better writers!

  • Please remember that reading books can be changed daily if reading logs have been signed. Reading Rocket words will be changed once a week during Guided Reading it is important your child can practise writing and reading the words on sight.
  • Homework is sent home each Friday and we expect it to be returned the following week completed and showing amazing effort. Homework is to be returned in the purple box in Year One we want independent learners so encourage your children to remember reading books and homework. What a way to earn easy Dojos too! J
  • PE and Dance are taught on Tuesday’s and it is important that earrings and other jewellery are not worn.
  • Children may bring a water bottle to school and replenish this each day. Drinking water helps our brains and keeps us learning!
