Welcome to Class 2LT!
My name is Miss Tromans and I am the class teacher in class 2LT. We have Miss Newman and Mrs Bentley working with us in the mornings plus Mrs Oldale working in our class two afternoons to help us with our learning. In class 2LT, we work hard on being the best class in and around school. We always have high expectations and standards in everything we do. We always try our best and work with a smile on our faces. Our main aim in Class 2LT is to achieve fantastic SATs results whilst having fun along the way! We love learning and pride ourselves in everything we do.
This half term in literacy, we are looking at non-chronological reports. The children will learn about the features and layout of a non-chronological report. We will be creating our very own about farms. The children will research facts about farms and different farm animals and use this new knowledge in their own factfile. After this, we will be carrying on the theme of farms and we will be reading, ‘The Pig in the Pond.’ The children willl continue to develop their knowledge of story writing whilst learning new techniques including alliterations and onomatopeia.
In our numeracy lessons, we are focussing on multiplcation and division. We will be making links between multiplcation and repeated addition. We will progress onto division making the links with sharing. It’s really handy for them to be confident with their 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables so please keep practising at home with them.
This half term, our geography topic is ‘The United Kingdom.’ The children will be learning about where the UK is situated in the world and the four countries that make up the UK. We will progress onto looking at different settlements.
In science lessons, we are looking at materials. The children will deepen their understanding on what different objects are made from. We will be researching which materials are waterproof and which materials will float.
PE is taught on Monday afternoons – please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school so they can enjoy the games and dance we learn.
Reading is an important part of school life and a skill that the children will use every day for the rest of their lives. Therefore it is very important that you listen to your child read every night so their home reading books can be changed on a regular basis. The children’s progression in reading is crucial during this year in school. We aim to listen to your child read every day in class and they often get stories read to them, E.G. in literacy, before lunch time, in topic, at the end of the day and during our guided reading lessons.
Homework is given out every Friday and must be returned by the following Friday, so new homework can be set. The homework should be completed with the upmost respect and to the same standard the children would produce in their school books. We also have phonics spellings given out plus high frequency words that need to be learnt in year 2. In these high frequency word books, the children are to write the words out, then put them into sentences. This task will ensure the children spell common words correctly.
Please ensure your child comes to school in the correct uniform. They should look clean and respectful every day of the week. Uniform lists can be found in the prospectus (please ask the office for a copy if you require one).
I hope this information gives you a small insight into the hard work that goes on in class 2LT! Our classroom door is always open and we will see your children out at the end of the day. If you need to see us about anything – or just have a chat – please do not hesitate to come and see us. J
Our priority is to ensure your children get the best results they can and enjoy the learning that takes place along the way.
We are very much looking forward to the year ahead.
Miss Tromans, Miss Newman, Mrs Bentley and Mrs Oldale.
