St Barnabas

& St Paul's Church of England Primary School

Class 2B

Welcome to Class 2B

My name is Mrs Holmes and I am the class teacher in class 2B.  In class 2B, we work very hard and we try to be the best class in and around school.  We always have high expectations and standards in everything we do.  We want all the children to develop a love of learning and we will all be working hard to reach our learning potential. We will always be thinking about our school vision and aim to be the best for God that we can be, in all we do, whilst demonstrating our school Christian Values.

This half term in Literacy, we are reading stories by the same author.   The author we be focusing on is Allan Alberg. Towards the end of term, we will be learning more about riddles and how to write them. We will also have a weekly Grammar and Comprehension lesson.

During Maths lessons, we are focusing on geometry.  We will be looking at 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. We will also be learning about symmetry and shape patterns.   Towards the end of the term, we will be learning about fractions.   Once a week, we have an arithmetic lesson so it is important to keep practising our times tables, division, the four operations and inverses.

For RE, we will be learning all about the story of Easter and how Christians all over the world celebrate it.  We will be discussing items and symbols that represent Easter and how these help us to understand the story of Easter.

This half term, our History topic is ‘People who have changed the world’.   We will be looking at how Rosa Parks changed the lives of African American people and will also be exploring the life of Nelson Mandela.    For Science, our topic is ‘Animals including Humans’.   We will be looking at how we survive, how we grow and the lifecycle.    In Modern Foreign Languages, we will be learning about different styles of music, and dancing to traditional songs from different countries.   In music, our theme is ‘Zoo Time’.   We will be listening to reggae music and learning to find the pulse and rhythms of different songs.

It is really important to stay active so we will be learning lots of new skills during our PE lessons.  We will be learning about invasion games and ball skills. It is important that your child has the correct PE kit and comes to school in this when it is a PE day.

Homework is given out every Friday and must be returned by the following Friday, so new homework can be set.  The homework should be completed with the upmost respect and to the same standard the children would produce in their school books. We also give out weekly spellings.

I hope this information helps you to understand the hard work that goes on in class 2B. Our classroom door is always open and we will see your children out at the end of the day.  If you need to see us about anything, please do not hesitate to contact us. Our priority is to ensure your children get the best results they can and enjoy the learning that takes place along the way.

We are very much looking forward to the next half term and being the best for God that we can be.
