Class 2B

Mrs Bolton - Class Teacher
Mrs Walton - Teaching Assistant

Welcome to Class 2B

My name is Mrs Bolton and I am the class teacher in class 2B. We are really lucky to have Mrs Walton working with us and she will definitely help us with our learning.  In class 2B, we will be working hard and we will try to be the best class in and around school.  We always have high expectations and standards in everything we do. Mrs Walton and I want all the children to develop a love of learning and we will all be working hard to reach our learning potential – ready for SATS. We will always be thinking about our school vision and aim to, ‘Be the best for God you can be’ whilst demonstrating our school Christian Values.

This half term in Literacy, we are looking at the book ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’.  We will be learning the features of stories set in a familiar setting and by the end of the half term, we will be able to write our own story in a familiar setting which will be similar to Oliver’s Vegetables. After that, we will begin to look at letters. We will also have a weekly Grammar and Comprehension lesson.

During Maths lessons, we are focusing on place value. We will practise our counting, reading and writing numbers and begin to explore how practical equipment can support our learning. After this, we'll begin to look at adding and subtracting, introducing exchange. Then we'll look at money before finally, thinking about multiplication and division. Once a week, we complete an arithmetic lesson so it is vital we know our 2, 5 and 10 times tables as they always come in handy.

For RE, we will be learning all about the Bible and how it is made up of lots of different books. We will be learning about key figures in the Old and New Testaments. Year 2 children will also have the opportunity to learn about books from other faiths too. Towards the end of term, we will be learning all about Christmas and why the birth of Jesus was such good news.

This half term, our Geography topic is ‘The World,’ where we will be learning about the world we live in and comparing different parts of it. For the second half term, we will be looking at significant events in British History for our History unit.  In Science, our first topic is ‘Living things and their habitats’ and we will be able to compare living and non-living things. Computing this half term is all about programming and we will be learning how to program things on a space theme. We will be using laptops and also Bee-Bots. In Autumn 2, children will be learning how to program games and test how they work. This half-term for DT, we will be looking, designing and making our own pizza and we will become food critics. During the second part of the term, our unit will be called Sparks and Flames and we will be developing our art skills.  In French this term, we will be learning how to say some animals, colours and Christmas vocabulary. For music, we will be looking and listening to South African music and learning how to play some notes on different instruments. In the second half term, we will become rappers and learn all about this style of music.

It is really important to stay active so we will be learning lots of new skills during our PE lessons. We will be learning about target games, developing our ball skills and we will be using equipment during our Gymnastic lessons. It is important that your child has the correct PE kits and comes to school in this when it is a PE day. For us, this will be a Tuesday.

Homework is given out every Friday and must be returned by the following Thursday, so new homework can be set.  The homework should be completed with the upmost respect and to the same standard the children would produce in their school books. We also give out weekly spellings.

I hope this information gives you a small insight into the hard work that goes on in class 2B. Our classroom door is always open and we will see your children out at the end of the day.  If you need to see us about anything, please do not hesitate contact us. Our priority is to ensure your children get the best results they can and enjoy the learning that takes place along the way.

Soon, we will be organising Meet the Teacher via the virtual platform of Zoom. We hope to see you there.

We are very much looking forward to the year ahead and being the best for God.

Mrs Bolton and Mrs Walton.
