Welcome to Class 5JB
Mr Brown is the class teacher and Miss Woodward and Mr Miller Crook are the teaching assistants.
This page will give you more information about what is happening in our class. Please come and see me if you have any questions.
Our focus for this half term will be legends and we will use Macbeth to help us learn more about these.
Each week we will have 3 literacy lessons, grammar lesson and a comprehension lesson. As well as this, we will be doing Extended Writing once a week.
It is extremely important that your child is regularly reading a wide range of books at home. This will not only help them with their comprehension skills, but will also improve their writing.
Reading books should be taken home every night and be brought into school every day so they can be changed.
In maths, this half term, we shall begin by looking at multiplication and division before looking at fractions and how they are represented. We will also look at decimals and percentages. Throughout our maths lessons, we will be trying to improve our reasoning skills for each mathematical skill.
You can help at home by ensuring your child knows all of their timetables; having a secure knowledge of their timetables will help them in many areas of Numeracy.
We adopt a creative curriculum approach to teaching ICT, Art, DT, History and Geography lessons and throughout the year we will be teaching the basic skills in these subjects through different topics. This half term we will be looking at Africa. We will look at comparing and contrasting different elements of African life and climate to Blackburn.
In Science we shall be learning about Earth and Space. We will be looking at the different phases of the moon and why we have day and night. Where possible we will carry out investigations.
It is essential that your child has their P.E. kit in school every day.
This half term we will be learning new skills which will help us to perform well in invasion games.
Our theme for this half term is ‘Loss, Death and Christian Hope’, we will learn about what happens at a Christian funeral and discuss what happens after a person dies.
Each week we also have lessons in ICT, Music, French and PSCHE.
Homework will be given out each Friday and must be completed and returned for the following Friday. The homework will be related to topics that have been taught in class so it will help embed understanding. Children will also receive spellings every Friday which must be learnt for our spelling test which will take place every Friday.
