Class 5LB

Welcome to Class 5LB

Mrs Bolton is the class teacher and Miss Patel is the teaching assistants in the morning.  In the afternoon Mrs O’Hara will be teaching the class.

This page will give you more information about what is happening in our class. Please come and see me if you have any questions.

Our focus for this half term will be stories by the same author and we will use Harry Potter to help us learn more about these.

Each week we will have 3 literacy lessons, a  grammar lesson and a comprehension lesson. As well as this, we will be doing Extended Writing once a week.

It is extremely important that your child is regularly reading a wide range of books at home. This will not only help them with their comprehension skills, but will also improve their writing.

Reading books should be taken home every night and be brought into school every day so they can be changed.

In maths, this half term, we shall be developing our understanding of fractions before looking at decimals and percentages. Throughout our maths lessons, we will be trying to improve our reasoning and problem solving skills.

You can help at home by ensuring your child knows all of their timetables; having a secure knowledge of their timetables will help them in many areas of Numeracy.

Creative Curriculum

We adopt a creative curriculum approach to teaching ICT, Art, DT, History and Geography lessons and throughout the year we will be teaching the basic skills in these subjects through different topics. This half term we will be looking at the Victorians. We will be comparing and contrasting the lifestyles of Victorians and modern day as well as understanding what life was like for Victorian  children.

In Science we shall be learning about Forces. We will be developing our understanding of the effect of different forces and how these affect our daily lives.

It is essential that your child has their P.E. kit in school every day.

This half term we will be learning new skills which will help us to perform well in invasion games.

Our theme for this half term is ‘Victory’. We will be looking at how victory is portrayed in the bible; learning more about everyday victories and how famous Christians have been victorious throughout history.

Each week we also have lessons in ICT, Music, French and PSCHE.

Homework will be given out each Friday and must be completed and returned for the following Friday. The homework will be related to topics that have been taught in class so it will help embed understanding. Children will also receive spellings every Friday which must be learnt for our spelling test which will take place every Friday.
