Welcome to Class 5LB
Mrs Bolton is the class teacher and Miss Patel is the teaching assistants in the morning. In the afternoon Mrs O’Hara will be teaching the class.
This page will give you more information about what is happening in our class. Please come and see me if you have any questions.
Our focus for this half term will be classical literature and we will be using Mary Poppins as a novel to help us with this.
Each week we will have 3 literacy lessons, a grammar lesson and a comprehension lesson. As well as this, we will be doing Extended Writing once a week.
It is extremely important that your child is regularly reading a wide range of books at home. This will not only help them with their comprehension skills, but will also improve their writing.
Reading books should be taken home every night and be brought into school every day so they can be changed.
In maths, this half term, we shall be developing our understanding of decimals before moving on to look at the properties of different shapes. Throughout our maths lessons, we will be trying to improve our reasoning and problem solving skills.
You can help at home by ensuring your child knows all of their timetables; having a secure knowledge of their timetables will help them in many areas of Numeracy.
We adopt a creative curriculum approach to teaching ICT, Art, DT, History and Geography lessons and throughout the year we will be teaching the basic skills in these subjects through different topics. This half term we will be looking at the South America. We will be identifying the physical features of different countries and comparing them to those of England as well as exploring the lifestyles of the people living in the different regions of South America.
In Science we shall be learning about ‘Animals including Humans’. We will be looking at changes in humans as they develop to old age as well as recognising the importance of diet, exercise and lifestyle and how it affects the bodies functions.
It is essential that your child has their P.E. kit in school every Thursday.
This half term we will be developing our athletics skills, specifically our throwing and jumping skills as we prepare for sports day.
Our theme for this half term is ‘Exploring the lives of significant women in the Old Testament’. We will be developing our understanding of the important roles that women played in the Old Testament and reflecting upon the actions of these women.
Each week we also have lessons in ICT, Music, French and PSCHE.
Homework will be given out each Friday and must be completed and returned for the following Friday. The homework will be related to topics that have been taught in class so it will help embed understanding. Children will also receive spellings every Friday which must be learnt for our spelling test which will take place every Friday.
