Welcome to Class 5LB
Mrs Bolton is the class teacher and Miss Patel is the teaching assistants in the morning. In the afternoon Mrs O’Hara will be teaching the class.
This page will give you more information about what is happening in our class. Please come and see me if you have any questions.
Our focus for this half term will be looking at a story by a significant author. We will be looking at William Shakespeare and the text Macbeth.
Each week we will have 3 Literacy lessons, a Grammar lesson and a Comprehension lesson. As well as this, we will be doing Extended Writing once a week. It is extremely important that your child is regularly reading a wide range of books at home. This will not only help them with their comprehension skills, but will also improve their writing. Reading books should be taken home every night and be brought into school every day so they can be changed.
Children will be listened to reading by Mrs Bolton or other members of staff.
In maths this half term we will be begin by looking at multiplication and division. We will be developing the children’s reasoning and problem solving skills whilst continuing to develop varied fluency.
You can help at home by ensuring your child knows all of their timetables; having a secure knowledge of their timetables will help them in many areas of Numeracy.
In History and Geography lessons throughout the year we will be teaching the basic skills. We will teach these skills through a topic which we have chosen. We have recently updated the creative curriculum to ensure we are teaching the children things that interest them and things that we think they need to know.
This half term we will be looking at Africa and the focus being Geography.
In Science we will be learning about Earth and Space. Children will have time to develop their independent learning skills during this topic.
It is essential that your child has their P.E. kit in school every day.
Our PE and dance sessions are on Thursday. This term, the children will also be going swimming on a Wednesday so swimming kits need to be in school on this day.
Our theme for this half term is ‘Loss, death and Christian Hope.’ This is a very sensitive unit of work and we are very mindful how we teach this. Where possible we try to relate the learning to stories and film to try and help the children understand.
Each week we also have lessons in ICT, Music, French and PSHCE.
Homework will be given out each Friday and must be completed and returned for the following Friday. The homework will be related to topics that have been taught in class so it will help embed understanding. Children will also receive spellings every Friday which must be learnt for our spelling test which will take place every Friday.
