Welcome to Class 6JD!
Miss Duckworth teaches Maths & Literacy in the morning, Mrs McDonald teaches in the afternoon and Mrs Oldale is the class TA during the morning. This page will give you more information about what is happening in our class. Please come and see me if you have any questions.
Each week we will have 3 literacy lessons, a grammar lesson and a comprehension lesson. As well as this we will be doing extended write once a week. You can help at home by ensuring your child knows all of their timetables; having a secure knowledge of their timetables will help them in many areas of Numeracy. It is also extremely important that your child is regularly reading a wide range of books at home. This will not only help them with their comprehension skills but will also improve their writing.
We have a creative curriculum which teaches the key skills in ICT, Art, DT, History and Geography throughout the year. This half term we will be looking at 'Rainforests'.
Science is taught once a week. During our Science lessons this term, the children will be learning all about 'Living things and their habitats' including how evolution affects living things.
Our Computing topic this term is ‘We are advertisers'. We will enable the children to: storyboard, shoot footage and import and export completed adverts.
PE is taught on a Wednesday and Friday afternoon. PE kits should be in school every day.
In Religious Education, our topic is 'Expressing the Christian Faith through Art'.
As a class we read every day. We provide opportunities for the children to read for pleasure as well as reading a whole class novel. This term we are reading Skellig. Children are given the chance to change home reader books daily.
Homework will be given out each Friday and must be completed and returned for the following Thursday. The homework will be related to topics that have been taught in class so it will help embed understanding. Children will also receive spellings every Friday which must be learned for our spelling test which will take place every Friday.
