At St Barnabas and St. Paul’s Church of England Primary School, our principal aim in teaching RE is to promote the spiritual, moral and cultural development of all our pupils, and to give them a firm grounding and sound understanding of the beliefs and practices of Christianity.
We follow the Blackburn Diocesan Board of Education Syllabus for Religious Education in Church Schools, which also explores other faiths in Britain today. To support this curriculum, we also use ‘Understanding Christianity.’
It is vital that Religious Education encourages pupils to develop positive attitudes to their learning, and to the beliefs and values of others. We believe the following four attitudes are essential for good learning in Religious Education, and should be developed at each stage or phase of Religious Education:
• respect for all
• appreciation and wonder
