British Science Week

British Science Week 2024

Mad Science Assembly

To complete British Science Week 2024, we welcomed 'Nuclear Naz' from Mad Science for a thrilling whole school assembly titled 'Spin, Pop, Boom'. The children (and teachers) really enjoyed conducting a variety of experiments resulting in explosions using mind blowing science.

Poster Competition

This year, the children took part in a poster competition based on the theme of 'Time'. The ideas ranged from the life cycle of a butterfly to how the Earth has changed over time and even the stages of how a plant grows. Each of the fantastic entries showed off key science learning and vocabulary as well as the children's creativity.

British Science Week 2023

Each year we celebrate British Science Week. The theme for 2023 was 'Connections', encouraging the children to think about connections they experience every day and how they can discover Science in their lives both inside and outside school. The whole school took part in a 'Smashing Stereotypes' assembly to celebrate how diverse scientists are and to raise the profile of women in STEM.

Each year group planned experiments and investigations on this theme using the British Science Week resource packs including bridge building, designing their own inventions and exploring the impact of hand washing on germs. Many of the activities promoted cross curricular learning between Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). Each class also held a Science quiz with the winner receiving a certificate and badge.

Poster Competition

The children were invited to take part in a poster competition based on the theme of 'Connections'. There were many wonderful  and creative entries from children of all ages. Each poster showcased all the fantastic Science learning that takes place at our school. Take a look a some of the fantastic entries below.

Smashing Stereotypes Assembly

At St Barnabas and St Paul's we encourage all children to see themselves as scientists no matter their gender, religion or background. As part of British Science Week we explored different job roles in STEM as well as celebrating the diverse selection of scientists from around the UK.
