SBSP Curriculum

SBSP Curriculum

At St Barnabas and St Paul’s Primary School, our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all pupils from differing heritage groups, preparing them for the next phase of their education. The vast majority of our pupils have English as an additional language and therefore, oracy, language development and reading are at the heart of our curriculum.

Learning starts in Reception with a curriculum based around quality texts. Reading remains high profile throughout the curriculum in Key Stages 1 and 2 with structured daily whole class reading sessions for all classes. Good use of standard English is consistently modelled and subject-specific vocabulary is taught so that pupils develop a wider range of spoken language and improve their understanding and comprehension.

Through our carefully sequenced curriculum provision, which includes a range of first-hand experiences, we equip our pupils with the essential knowledge and skills to become successful, confident learners who are able to access a broad and balanced curriculum.

As a Church of England primary school, we work closely with families to equip them with the skills necessary to support their children to ‘be the best for God that they can be’. Our Christian values (linked closely to British Values) underpin everything we do in school and act as a guide for how to live a good life. Through our PSHE and RE curriculum, worship and nurture opportunities, the spiritual, cultural and moral development of our pupils is prioritised so that they become well-rounded and confident individuals who impact positively on society.

“The curriculum should help children make deeper and fuller understanding of their own experience.” - Lilian Katz
