Science Around School

Science Clubs

As part of our Science enhancement, Miss Duerden and Miss Baloch run an Eco Club. Eco Club meet once a week to share ideas, run campaigns and competitions across the school and hold regular assemblies to update our pupils. Recently, Eco Club has planted daffodils and created a bug hotel to provide a safe place for wildlife. They will soon be planting more trees around school. Eco Club also help to care for our environment by litter picking during lunchtimes.

Science Day 2023

Each year we celebrate British Science Week. The theme for 2023 was 'Connections', encouraging the children to think about connections they experience every day and how they can discover Science in their lives both inside and outside school. The whole school took part in a 'Smashing Stereotypes' assembly to celebrate how diverse scientists are and to raise the profile of women in STEM.

Each year group planned experiments and investigations on this theme using the British Science Week resource packs including bridge building, designing their own inventions and exploring the impact of hand washing on germs. Many of the activities promoted cross curricular learning between Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). Each class also held a Science quiz with the winner receiving a certificate and badge.

Poster Competition

The children were invited to take part in a poster competition based on the theme of 'Connections'. There were many wonderful  and creative entries from children of all ages. Each poster showcased all the fantastic Science learning that takes place at our school. Take a look a some of the entries below.
