Reading in Science

At our school children read a variety of high quality and language rich texts during their Science lessons. Pupils can also find many books about Science in our school library and in classroom reading areas. Many of our English texts and SQUIRT books are also linked to Science topics. 

Oracy in Science

The quality and variety of language that pupils hear and speak are key factors in developing their scientific vocabulary and articulating scientific concepts clearly and precisely. At St Barnabas and St Paul's, children are encouraged to speak like a scientist during their Science lessons. Scientific vocabulary for each unit is identified in planning and explicitly taught. When conducting investigations and experiments, children are excited to use working scientifically vocabulary.
