Class 3B

Welcome to Class 3B's Class Page

Welcome to class 3B’s page.

Mr Brown is the class teacher and we have Mrs Kheratker supporting our class in Year 3. This is an exciting time where our pupils join the juniors in Key Stage 2. On our page, you will find information about what we will be learning throughout this term.

In 3B, we have high expectations that every member of our class will aim to be the best for God that they can be, in line with our school’s vision. Our school value this half term is linked to thankfulness and, during worship, we will reflect on all that we have to be thankful for, especially during this difficult time.

In Literacy, we will begin the term by looking at ‘Folk Tales’ and the particular Folk Tale we will focus on is the Tin Forest by Helen Ward. This will be a good opportunity to introduce our pupils to a rich variety of wonderful texts which they will be accessing throughout their time in Key Stage 2. Once we have developed our understanding of the Tin Forest, and any associated vocabulary, we will end the unit by writing our own Folk Tale. We will then move on to writing a Recount - specifically a Biography; we will look at Fables; we will study poems with a structure, before finishing the term by developing our Persuasive writing skills through letter writing. Each week in Whole Class Reading, we will focus on all of the reading VIPERS – vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summarise/sequence - through a range of different texts.

In Mathematics, we will begin by looking at place value which will include recognising and representing numbers in different ways; comparing and ordering numbers and counting in 50’s. After this, we will move onto addition and subtraction where we will apply our prior knowledge of adding and subtracting tens and ones to adding and subtracting multiples of 100. Towards the end of the term, we will move onto multiplication and division where we will explore arrays to see the commutativity of multiplication facts and focus on finding the most efficient strategy to use when dividing.

Our RE unit this term has a focus on the celebration of Harvest. Throughout this unit we will: explore where Harvest is mentioned in scriptures; research how it is celebrated around the world as well as looking at the similarities between the Christian celebration of Harvest and the Jewish celebration of Sukkot. Once we have finished our unit on Harvest, we will look at why Christians sing during worship before finishing off the term looking at the meaning of Christmas.

Our Science unit is all about Rocks and how they are formed and we will then look at Animals including Humans. In Computing, we will be developing our coding skills before learning how to stay safe online. DT this term will focus on popping storybooks which uses skills based around mechanisms and linkages. After half term, we will be looking at emotional painting in Art. Geography will focus on mapping skills and fieldwork and after half term, we will be looking at the Stone Age in History. French will have a focus on recognising and responding to numbers. PSHE is all about being our own individuals in this world before we look at and learn to celebrate all of our differences. In Music, we will be exploring the song ‘Let Your Spirit Fly’ and we will be creating our own simple rhythm patterns as we are introduced to using the glockenspiels.

By Year 3, we expect all children to be confident and fluent when recalling their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. Please help your children to practise these at home every night. We also expect children to be reading daily for at least 15 minutes and this should include a range of different genres and text types. We will send out homework and spellings at the beginning of every half term; this is to be completed each week and to be handed in on a Thursday and returned the following day. We will have a spelling test every Friday morning. Please ensure your child arrives in school on time every day as it is vitally important that we make each minute matter. For PE, please ensure that children wear the correct kit and that it is washed on a weekly basis. Children must arrive in their PE kit every Wednesday.
