Welcome to Class 3B's Class Page
Welcome to class 3B’s page.
Mr Brown is the class teacher and we have Mrs Patel supporting our class in the morning and Miss Hajat in the afternoon in Year 3. This is an exciting time where our pupils join the juniors in Key Stage 2. On our page, you will find information about what we will be learning throughout this term.
In 3B, we have high expectations that every member of our class will aim to be the best for God that they can be, in line with our school’s vision. Our school values will be important throughout the term and during worship, we will reflect on all that we have to be thankful for, especially during this difficult time.
In Literacy, we will begin the term by looking at persuasive letters and the particular text we will focus on is ‘Dear Teacher’. This will be a good opportunity to introduce our pupils to a rich variety of wonderful texts which they will be accessing throughout their time in Key Stage 2. Once we have developed our understanding of ‘Dear Teacher’, and any associated vocabulary, we will end the unit by writing our own persuasive letter. We will then move on to writing a story as a theme; we will study poems on a theme, before finishing the term by writing a recount – specifically a diary entry. Each week in Whole Class Reading, we will focus on all of the reading VIPERS – vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summarise/sequence - through a range of different texts.
In Mathematics, we will begin by looking at multiplication and division where we will be introduced to the short multiplication method as well as learning different ways of dividing numbers; We will be developing our understanding of money as well as looking at statistics which include bar charts, tallies and pictograms. After this, we will move onto length and perimeter where we will use various equipment to measure the area and perimeter of several shapes and objects. Towards the end of the term, we will move onto fractions where we will find halves and quarters of amounts.
Our RE unit this term is Jesus the man who changed lives. Throughout this unit we will how change can affect our own lives as well as the people whose lives have changed because of Jesus from different periods of time. We will be also focusing on the question: What kind of world did Jesus want? Once we have finished this unit, we will look at exploring the sadness and joy of Easter.
Our Science unit is all about Forces and we will explore how different forces can affect different objects. In Computing, we will be developing our touch typing before developing our understanding of emails including email safety. DT this term will focus on lunchbox fritters which develops our food preparation skills. After half term, we will be looking at textiles in Art. Geography will focus on hills and mountains and after half term, we will be looking at the Vikings and Anglo Saxons in History. French will have a focus on age, colours and Easter. PSHE is all about being our dreams and goals as well as how we can be healthy individuals. In Music, we will be exploring the songs ‘Three Little Birds’ and ‘The Dragon song’.
By Year 3, we expect all children to be confident and fluent when recalling their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables. Please help your children to practise these at home every night. We also expect children to be reading daily for at least 15 minutes and this should include a range of different genres and text types. Your child’s home reading book must be brought in to school every day. We will send out homework spellings at the beginning of every half term; this is to be completed each week and to be handed in on a Thursday and returned the following day. Please ensure your child arrives in school on time every day as it is vitally important that we make each minute matter. For PE, please ensure that children wear the correct kit and that it is washed on a weekly basis. Children must arrive in their PE kit every Tuesday.
