Class 4P

Class 4P's Class Page

Welcome to class 4P’s page. We are thrilled to have all the children back in what we hope will be a less disruptive year.  I am Mr Rawat, the class teacher, and we have Mrs O'Hara as our class TA, as well as Mr Mckenna, supporting our class. Year 4 is an exciting and challenging year with lots of interesting learning as we explore the curriculum whilst being guided by our vision. We will be encouraging everyone to ‘become the best for God that we can be, in all we do, whilst demonstrating Christian values which are pertinent to all faiths.’ We hope to ensure that every child feels safe, happy and connected to our school community.

In English, we will begin the term by looking at ‘Novels with a theme,’ exploring the rich, descriptive vocabulary that enhances stories of this genre. This would be a good time, if possible, to introduce your child to all of the wonderful books from this fantastic genre at home. We will end the unit by producing our own independent write. We will then move on to writing Persuasive Texts, picking out non-fiction features and persuading our readers with balanced arguments. Each week in reading, we will focus on a Read, Write Inc module and build on our comprehension skills.

In Mathematics, we will begin by looking at multiplication and division. This will include: finding factors, adding and subtracting fractions, multiplying by 2 and 3 digits using a formal method. In the next unit, we will look at measures where we will apply our learning to convert measures. A focus on multiplication will be present throughout he year, keeping in mind the multiplication test at the end of the year.

Our RE unit this term will look at Jesus the Son of God. We will explore how Christians believe in the power and authority of Jesus and finding proof of that from the Bible by searching for stories.

For Science this term, our unit is all about States of Matter.  In Computing, we will be creating our own spreadshseets with data. In Art, we will be looking at the phenomenon of Pop Art. In Geography, we will explore volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis. French will have a focus on family members. PSHE will look at the unit of ‘Being healthy,’ as well as exploring ‘Who am I and how do I fit in?’ This will be followed by a unit of ‘Celebrating Differences.’ Finally, in Music, we are very fortunate to be supported by the Greater Manchester Music Hub who will teach the class how to play a musical instrument.

Homework grids will be given out at the end of the first full week of term. Each homework week begins on a Friday and it should be completed online or handed back in by Wednesday.  Each week, homework will always consist of reading 3 times a week mainly using Reading Plus; an English and Maths focus using Purple Mash or My Maths,  Times Tables Rock Stars and SPaG.com, as well as a foundation subject project.

This term, PE is every Thurdsay. Please ensure that children come to school in their PE kit every week: children should be in the correct PE footwear. This term, we will be building our skills in tennis and rounders.

Thank you for visiting us in 4P.
