Class 4P's Class Page
Welcome to class 4P’s page. We are thrilled to have all the children back in what we hope will be a less disruptive year. I am Mr Rawat, the class teacher, and we have Mrs Umarji as our class TA, as well as Mrs Bentley, supporting our class. Year 4 is an exciting and challenging year with lots of interesting learning as we explore the curriculum whilst being guided by our vision. We will be encouraging everyone to ‘become the best for God that we can be, in all we do, whilst demonstrating Christian values which are pertinent to all faiths.’ We hope to ensure that every child feels safe, happy and re-connected to our school community.
In English, we will begin the term by looking at ‘Stories with Fantasy Settings,’ exploring the rich, descriptive vocabulary that enhances stories of this genre. This would be a good time, if possible, to introduce your child to all of the wonderful books from this fantastic genre at home. We will end the unit by producing our own piece of writing in the style of Fantasy stories. We will then move on to writing Explanation Texts, picking out non-fiction features. This will be followed by Film and Playscripts; Fairy Tales; Classic Poetry and we will finish the autumn term with Recounts, specifically in the Newspaper Report genre. Each week in reading, we will focus on one of the reading VIPERS – vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval and summarise/sequence through a range of fiction and non-fiction texts.
In Mathematics, we will begin by looking at place value. This will include: recognising and representing numbers in different ways up to 10,000; rounding to the nearest 1000; negative numbers and Roman numerals. In the next unit, we will look in to addition and subtraction where we will apply our learning to 4-digit numbers, whilst looking at efficient use of exchanging. Some time will be given to length and perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes. We will complete the term with multiplication and division and exploring 10s and 100s.
Our RE unit this term will look at God, David and the Psalms. We will explore how David is a key figure in God’s plan for his people and, at the same time, recognise our own values and the values of others. We will then move on to Christmas, exploring the symbolism of light. We hope to better understand and explain most of the traditions Christians use to celebrate Christmas.
For Science this term, our unit is all about Electricity followed by Animals Including Humans. In Computing, we will be coders and look in detail about online safety. In Art, we will be getting ‘Dotty,’ looking at the work of Georges Seurat. In History, we will explore the Romans followed by volcanoes, earthquakes and Tsunamis in Geography. French will have a focus on body parts and we will then move on to describing animals and Christmas. PSHE will look at the unit of ‘Being me in my world,’ as well as exploring ‘Who am I and how do I fit in?’ This will be followed by a unit of ‘Celebrating Differences.’ Finally, in Music, we are very fortunate to be supported by the Greater Manchester Music Hub who will teach the class how to play a musical instrument.
Homework grids will be given out at the end of the first full week of term. Each homework week begins on a Friday and it should be completed online or handed back in by Wednesday. Each week, homework will always consist of reading 3 times a week mainly using Reading Plus; an English and Maths focus using Purple Mash; Times Tables Rock Stars and SPaG.com, as well as a foundation subject project.
This term, PE is every Monday. Please ensure that children come to school in their PE kit every week: children should be in the correct PE footwear. This term, we will be building our skills in football and yoga, followed by gymnastics and basketball.
Thank you for visiting us in 4P.
