Class 2B

Welcome to Class 2B’s page. I am Mr Thomas and I am the class teacher. We have Miss Beare and Mrs Harrison supporting in our class. Mrs O’Hara and Mrs Holmes also teach in 2B too. We always have high expectations and standards in everything we do. We want all the children to develop an attitude that enables them to enjoy and love learning. We will always remember to use our school vision, ‘Be the best for God you can be,’ whilst ensuring we demonstrate our school’s Christian Values.

This half term, in Literacy, we are writing a non-chronological report on Neil Armstrong. We will gather facts for our content, look at the features of a non-chronological report and compose our own fact file. In addition to this, the children will learn how to edit and improve their own work. In year 2, we also complete weekly Comprehension lessons, allowing us to improve our vocabulary; inferencing skills; making predictions; explaining why and retrieving facts.

During Maths lessons this half term, we will be looking at time, mass and capacity. We will be solving word problems linked to our topics too. We will also be continuing to complete weekly arithmetic lessons where we focus on our number work. In addition to this, we will be practising our 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables.

For RE, we will be learning about special places focusing on ‘The Church’ and why this is a special place to Christians. We will look at the features of the church, focusing on both the outside and the inside. We will progress onto looking at some of the celebrations that happen in a church. Finally, we will look at different places of worship for a variety of religions.

In Geography, our topic is ‘Fieldwork’. We will be learning how a compass works and how to use one. We will be looking at maps from our local area and plotting simple routes to familiar places. We will be learning about the life cycles of humans and other animals in our Science lessons. We will also be finding out what animals need to survive. During Music in Year Two, we will have access to glockenspiels whilst learning the song – ‘The Friendship Song.’

We will be learning to play tennis while focusing on net games and we will begin practising throwing, jumping and running for athletics in our PE lessons this half term. We are investigating different puppets for DT this half term. We will progress onto designing our own hand puppet, creating one and then evaluating it. We will be looking at ‘Relationships’ in PSHE and how they can look. We will learn that not all relationships look the same but they are all special.   Finally, in Computing, we will be creating pictures. We will research a range of different artists and, using their art work as inspiration, we will create our own pieces. We will be looking at Impressionism, Pointillism and Surrealism.

PE will be taught on Mondays so please ensure your child comes to school wearing their full PE kit on that day.  Homework is given out every Friday and must be returned by the following Thursday, so new homework can be set.  The homework should be completed with the utmost respect and effort and to the same standard that the children would produce in their school books.

Thank you for visiting our page and reading all about us in 2B. Please do not hesitate to contact either myself or any of the staff working in 2B if you have any questions. We are very much looking forward to the year ahead and being the best for God that we can be. We hope to be able to share our achievements with you as much as possible.

Mr Thomas
