Class 2B

Welcome to Class 2B’s page. I am Mr Thomas and I am the class teacher. We have Miss Pickles and Mrs Harrison supporting in our class too. In 2B, we always aim high and have high expectations and standards in everything we do. We want all the children to develop an attitude that enables them to enjoy and love learning. We will always remember to use our school vision, ‘Be the best for God you can be’ whilst ensuring we demonstrate our school Christian Values.

This half term in Literacy, we are reading ‘The Jolly Postman,’ by Allan Ahlberg. We will be exploring the character’s feelings, sequencing the events, making inferences, retrieving information, asking questions and retelling sections of the story. In addition to this, the children will learn how to edit and improve their own work. In year 2, we also complete weekly comprehension lessons allowing us to improve: our vocabulary, inferencing skills, making predictions, explaining why and retrieving facts.

During Maths lessons this half term, we will be looking at place value. We will be counting and representing numbers up to 100 using a variety of resources. We will also be comparing and ordering numbers. In an addition to this, we will be practising our 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables.

For RE, we will be learning about the Christian Holy Book -The Bible - and why it is important to Christians. We will read stories from both the Old and New Testaments, highlighting key figures from both. We will also learn about holy books from different religions, focusing on the Torah, Qur’an and Guru Granth Sahib.

In Geography this term, we will be looking at the United Kingdom. We will be learning about the countries that make up the UK and the capital cities belonging to each. We will be researching human and physical features of the UK and learning what makes the UK an island. In Science, we will be learning about living things and their habitats. We will be researching different animals and discovering why they choose the habitat they live in.  During Music in year two, we will have access to glockenspiels whilst learning the song ‘Hands, Feet and Heart.’ Fundamental skills and yoga will be the focus of our PE lessons this half term. We are also becoming pizza designers and makers in DT this half term. We will design a healthy pizza and then create, eat and evaluate it. We will be looking into friendships and staying safe in PSHE whilst developing strategies to express our emotions. Finally, in Computing, we will become coders and we will learn about algorithms when creating a game, using commands.

PE will be taught on Wednesdays so please ensure your child comes to school wearing their full PE kit on that day.  Homework is given out every Friday and must be returned by the following Thursday, so new homework can be set.  The homework should be completed with the utmost respect and effort and to the same standard the children would produce in their school books.

Thank you for visiting our page and reading all about us in 2B. Please do not hesitate to contact either myself or any of the staff working in 2B if you have any questions. We are very much looking forward to the year ahead and being the best for God that we can be. We hope to be able to share our achievements with you as much as possible.

Mr Thomas
